The Arts Continued . . .

We will touch on four periods of Japanese art.

  • The traditional Edo Period starting around 1600.

  • The Meiji Period of mutual influence with the West starting in 1868.

  • The influential Japanese Arts & Crafts Movement of the 1920s (also known as Mingei or Japanese Folk Craft).

  • And finally, contemporary work in architecture & gardening that is strongly rooted in the old ways.

This tour will include hands on experience in at least three crafts, opportunities to meet craft masters, world class museums, historic districts, art studios, many towns (about 8 , some remote), shopping opportunities, and very importantly, a little time away from the group to follow your own nose or take a deep breath.
